In a powerful display of tipón’s commitment to developing its people, CFO Joerence Talampas recently hosted a lecture on the Fundamentals of Accounting and Financial Management. The session saw a strong turnout from a cross-section of the organization, with attendees from diverse departments such as Finance, Construction, Contracting, and various other groups. The audience included a wide range of roles, from Supervisory and SEED Trainees to Senior Analysts and Managers, all eager to deepen their financial understanding. The session offered a deep dive into the language of business, equipping attendees with the knowledge to better understand financial health and make informed decisions.
The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the three main financial statements, which are crucial for assessing a company's performance:
- Balance Sheet: A snapshot of an organization's financial condition at a specific point in time, detailing its assets (what it owns), liabilities (what it owes), and equity (the owner's stake).
- Income Statement: Summarizes a company's revenues, expenses, and profit or loss over a period.
- Cash Flow Statement: Tracks the movement of cash into and out of the business, highlighting where money is coming from and where it's being spent.
Attendees were shown how to perform vertical and horizontal analysis on these statements. Vertical analysis measures each line item as a percentage of a total, while horizontal analysis compares financial data against previous periods to identify trends and growth.
The session emphasized that understanding these fundamentals is not just for finance professionals but for anyone in a leadership or management role. As Joerence highlighted, financial analysis is a critical tool for making decisions, from funding growth to reevaluating expenses.
By providing opportunities like this lecture, tipón reinforces its core value of investing in its employees, empowering everyone to contribute to the company's success with a more insightful and analytical mindset. A big thank you to Joerence Talampas for an incredibly valuable and engaging session!
