Tnalak Cooperative and Asiapro Foundation Inc.'s Relief Operation

The severe and heavy rainfall felt in Davao Region have brought devastation to some points and areas in Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte. Notably, many Tnalak Cooperative members are residents from Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte – due to the continued rain it affected company operations, thus impeded the livelihood of plentiful community members, agricultural workers in particular.

By the leadership of the Tnalak MPC President and General Manager Gerry Cain they have formed the Tnalak Task Force composing of the Maragusan, Sto. Tomas, and Panabo satellite Operations Head, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Lead, satellite focal persons, and satellite Member Supervisors. The group have managed to conduct a spot validation amid the rain and flooding. After a day or two, the Coop communicated the situation to the Asiapro Foundation, Inc. (AFI). The Tnalak MPC, together with Asiapro Multipurpose Cooperative’s (AMPC’s) Office of the COO and the Foundation are in agreement to collaborate both effort and resources to implement relief operations to the 3 affected satellites.

Relief assistance came in a form of distributing food packs to members, where a total of 593 members and their families have received 5 kilos of rice, 5 cans of sardines, 4 packs of noodles, and 3 liters of water. These basic and instant goods were preferred in those times for there were residents who needed to left home and have to stay in evacuation centers; and almost if not all, stores are inaccessible or involuntarily have to close.

The impact and the damaged it caused to communities and to our coop members may vary from one another, yet the joint effort of the Cooperatives and the Foundation hoped to have given relief to the difficulty faced by our members. Conversely, in those times of uncertainties, the spirit of Cooperativism have remained, and living with the cooperative principles, naming a few: Initiative, Common-good, Responsibility, and Concern for others became evident. In addition, Asiapro Foundation, Inc have also remained true in becoming an instrument to uplift the lives of the members and their families in moments of setbacks.
